DERU Market & Catering- A

$

Hi guys after much anticipation I’m back with another restaurant review and this one is a must try. So much so that the review I wrote last night to post today was postponed, and this one was put up instead. I legit just went to visit this spot today and was floored by the food, the service and the cutesy atmosphere that I straight up left there and ran to the nearest coffee shop to write this. Fun fact the coffee shop I chose happened to be Dote Coffee Bar in Lincoln Square South Food Hall in Bellevue. Honestly it wasn’t the closest coffee shop but it is the closest one to stores that I can shop in afterwards so #twobirdsonestone.

So back to story time, one of my girlfriends in Seattle is leaving and getting her Wizard of OZ on aka moving to Kansas (I know random right). But, anyways we had to have one last lunch date (tear) and we chose DERU Market & Catering in Kirkland. I’ve never been but when she said she was going to be in the area I instantly knew exactly where I wanted to go. I’ve stalked them on social media for a while now and since I’m on a health kick I knew this would allow me to stick to my “diet” at least a little. DERU Market & Catering offers local organic seasonal food cooked from scratch daily for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and if that doesn’t scream “healthy-ish” I don’t know what does.

She and I have such similar taste in food that it is never surprising when we order the same thing at restaurants. Thus for lunch we both ordered the ½ sandwich and salad lunch special ($13.50) and a glass of Champagne (for celebration purposes of course). We had the Roasted Chicken and Goat Cheese Sandwich with the Farm Salad. As far as pricing goes for everything plus tip I paid a total of $50 bucks.

The Roasted Chicken and Goat Cheese Sandwich comes with a red onion marmalade, arugula, lemon and aioli on salt & herb crusted Focaccia that is baked fresh daily. The sandwich even though listed as a half is more than enough to fill you up so I’m not sure how someone can eat a whole one (talk about stretching your stomach). But, some people say size doesn’t matter so hey who cares about that lets talk about taste! Drum roll please…the sandwich was EVERYTHING I repeat EVERYTHING. I’m not sure if it was the sweetness of the marmalade or the tart taste of the Arugula or the Goat Cheese (I’m a firm believer that Goat Cheese makes everything better) but it was amazing. Get this, for real!

The Farm Salad came with feta, harvest greens, toasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds), roasted carrots, herbs and a house made herb vinaigrette. I must begin by saying that I am not a salad woman. By no means do I go out and order salads at restaurants on purpose, diet be damned. However I thought it would make me feel like I’m eating healthy if I ordered it with my sandwich so I said ok to the salad. I was glad I did too because for a salad with no meat I was not disappointed. You can totally order a full size salad and add Roasted Chicken for an additional $4 but since this was a side salad I didn’t feel like it was necessary. After the first bite I felt myself transform into that person that would go around to restaurants ordering salads because it was just that good.

Overall this cute neighbourhood eatery that I’ve been stalking for the better part of 2 months did not disappoint. From the lovely lady that took our order to the gentleman that sat us I felt welcome and cared for (you order first sit after). I would say it had something to do with the bubbly, but that was all before I got my drink so it had to be real. If you find yourself in Kirkland and are looking for something yummy to eat definitely give DERU Market & Catering a try. If my saying go there isn’t enough to convince you to get your booty over there they are also known for their fabulous Wood Fired Pizza (#Checkmate). As always stay #ForkDeep.
